I need 48-hour days!!!

By October 4, 2017 No Comments

Argh, I wish we had longer days because my time management skills suck.
There’s so much to do but my schedule makes their priority amount to nothing.
Earlier this year I had a map, or let me say a list of tasks/side projects I wanted to complete before the year runs out. Now I’m gonna list them below and also how far I have progressed on each one.

1. The Force WordPress theme : Sounds like something from the star wars franchise right?
It actually is. I had this great idea of making a Star wars inspired WordPress theme and giving it out for free on the download section of this blog, and also uploading it on the repository.

Progress : Wire frame on sketch and about 60 lines of html5.

2. The Force brand identity template: You are a genius, figuring I stole the name the franchise too.
This brand identity pack contains an Id card, business card, letter heads, envelope and an awesome (it looked awesome in my thoughts) flyer design. This was to be uploaded on behance, freepik and also on the download section.

Progress : Done with the Id card, the rest are uhmmmm.. Let’s move on

3. Hanxolo.css : Ok this wasn’t made to overthrow bootstrap or flexbox. I started this project because I was trying to curb my use of random names while creating classes and ids.
E.g <div class=”buhari”></div>
And yep I’m guilty of not using proper comments in my stylesheets. So i started using some unique classes like “row”, “gridrow”, “gridrow-2”, “gridrow12” etc.
Row was set at 100% width, gridrow wasn’t at full width and gridrow-2 was 50% of gridrow.
Since I kept repeating this classes over time, I thought “why not create a default stylesheet, get it hosted on a CDN and bam my own css framework would be born”?

Progress: Too lazy to actually put the various styles I’ve already pre written together. Basically Im at 30 percent.

4. Launching with Rails: I picked up ruby sometime this year (Im still a front end dude).
Finished my tutorials, then I got stuck between choosing sinatra or rails. Finally picked rails but still haven’t done anything tangible yet.

My time management skills are horrible, and I dont know if a lot of web developers out there share my fate. Between working on clients projects, meeting up deadlines, debugging in your dreams and still trying to squeeze out the tiniest amount of time so your social life won’t be buried, because its already dead. How does one create enough time for projects like these?
I’ll definitely go for a time management course as soon as I can work that into my schedule.

Ps: Yay I blogged twice In two months ?
